SPORTS IN SCHOOL - ARYA CHAUBE
Children and school share a special relationship. Within the institution the role of a physical education teacher is even more significant.
Health Beyond Healing took an opportunity to discuss this with one of its directors Ms. Arya Chaube, who is a qualified physical education instructor on how Physical education impacts the lived of students and why is it significant.
HBH: Greetings Madam, so what are your views on why is physical education necessary for children?
Arya: Greetings! Physical education is one of the medium to drive discipline with fun. Unlike books it is a method where it is a do-doer relationship. The child is the doer and what he does is the do. It is through this relationship that he turns active in a coordinated way and thus develops a balanced physical and mental approach to things.
HBH: The above is a very individual development. What do you have to say about developing aptitude for working in groups?
Arya: The above definitely talks about individual, but we must not forget individual is the formative entity of the groups. Physical education also takes care of the challenges that a group presents as an environment and it allows the individual to identify ways in which he can come together with people and also ways where he can retain his individuality while he is still a part of the group. Hence, like I said it is a method and discipline, and together it helps develop an all round personality.
HBH: It is not always win. Sometimes you also lose. Does physical education do something for it?
Arya: Yes the question is pertinent. In a world where today competition only drives success and else it treats you at a ZERO, it is important to develop an aptitude to accept losses as well. Sports while it appears and drives challenge and pursuit to win, it always says, in a game there will be a winner and a loser, but it is on that day. Therefore of paramount importance is a sincere effort and not the result whether you win or lose. You always respect your opponent and learn from both his win and loss, This is what we call is sportsmanship, respect and humility along with discipline.
HBH: What other things of important value do you think physical education and sports inculcate in a child?
Arya: There are two other very important things that sports teaches and that is resilience and problem solving. It teaches never say give up attitude and that is a key when we say sports drives team spirit. It helps you understand importance of rising up to the occassion
HBH: Thank you Madam for your brief for LEMON May!
